Within Reach (2015-2016)
Paintings from the series, Within Reach, focuses on my experience as a mother and artist working out of a kitchen studio. Situated in the center of everyday chaos, my studio is fraught with toys, fruit, unfinished collages, and baby hands on a mission of discovery. In a sense, I have no choice but to include these little hands, which seem to be everywhere I look. The shapes and shadows I observe in the seemingly mundane objects of the everyday inspire me to create dynamic compositions, and I enjoy using the line as object to entice the viewer into my hectic, abundant world. Together the hands and the patterns act as a metaphor for my divided focus in the studio and a diversion from my intended search for a sense of self, seemingly always just within reach.
